Not all neck pain is the same — and at Atlas Injury to Health, we don't treat it that way. This video walks through exactly how we analyze upper cervical misalignment using precise, orthogonal X-ray measurements to identify the root cause of a patient's neck pain.

Using digital imaging, we look for a 90-degree orthogonal relationship between the head, C1 (the Atlas vertebra), and C2. When that relationship is off — such as the head and neck shifting to the right, or C1 elevating to one side — it creates stress at the cranio-cervical junction, the critical area surrounding the brain stem. This can contribute to neck pain and a wide range of other symptoms throughout the body.

We measure specific rotation values at both C1 and C2, targeting 0.4 degrees or less for a precise correction. Once the misalignment is mapped, we use a sound wave percussion instrument to gently and accurately correct this vital area of the spine — no forceful manipulation, just targeted, data-driven care.

There's a lot of reasons for neck pain, but when we look at it from an upper cervical standpoint, we want to see that there is a 90 degree relationship and this green line should be the zero point for this patient and then the hash mark should be the zero point. So from an orthogonal standpoint, we look at it from like a crosshairs. This patient's neck is going off to the right and their head is shifted over to the right. There's C1, which is atlas, that's what it's called, is where this long line is. So it's elevated up to the left where it should be down flatter. When we look at degrees and the specificity that we do, we want this number, which is C2 rotation, 0.4 or less. And then with C1 rotation to the skull, that's a different film we look at from the back of the skull, we want the same number, 0.4 or less. So this misalignment can affect the brain stem area, which can cause all kinds of different issues in the body, but specifically neck pain as well. So what we do is we precisely measure, and then we use a sound wave percussion instrument to correct that vital area of the spine, which is the craniosacervical junction. Thank you.
